This would look good as a B&W using the green filter and some adjustments.
Darken the background with selective color.

To increase the white, try reducing the black channel in the white using "selective colour". Dont burn it....

Take that layer and make it a Screen. Back off the fill to about 55 %
Then darken the background again.
To make it even brighter use the selective tool on the white also.
This trick will also work on the color picture.
This will make it look great.
